Events that marked the week:

Focus of the Tuesday's session was on RBA Meeting Minutes.  After the ECB and then the BOC complained about the exchange rate, the RBA followed suit. It seems that everybody except the BOE wants a lower currency. For Australia’s central bank, it is certainly not the first time. While the recent meeting minutes do not shed any surprising new light, they serve to keep the pressure on the Australian dollar.

USD - Major events in the week ahead

Events that marked the week:

On Tuesday Housing Starts and Building Permits data was published. Privately-owned housing units authorized by building permits in August were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,300,000. This is 5.7 percent above the revised July rate of 1,230,000 and is 8.3 percent above the August 2016 rate of 1,200,000. Single-family authorizations in August were at a rate of 800,000; this is 1.5 percent below the revised July figure of 812,000. Authorizations of units in buildings with five units or more were at a rate of 464,000 in August. Privately-owned housing starts in August were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,180,000.

USD - Major events in the week ahead

Events that marked the week:

On Friday Retail Sales, Industrial Production and Consumer Sentiment data was published. An unexpected decline in August retail sales and downward revisions to the prior two months mainly reflected weaker results at auto dealerships, Commerce Department figures showed Friday. Overall sales fell 0.2% (est. 0.1% gain) after a 0.3% increase (prev. 0.6% gain); June sales dropped 0.1% (prev. 0.3% rise).

EUR//USD Weekly Forecast – 18 September – 22 September

Events that marked the week:

Wednesday's session brought Eurozone Industrial Production figures. In July 2017 compared with June 2017, seasonally adjusted industrial production rose by 0.1% in the euro area (EA19), while it decreased by 0.3% in the EU28, according to estimates from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. In June 2017, industrial production fell by 0.6% in both zones. In July 2017 compared with July 2016, industrial production increased by 3.2% in the euro area and by 3.1% in the EU28.
