UK Unemployment Rate fell to 4.5%
For March to May 2017: the unemployment rate for people was 4.5%; it has not been lower since April to June 1975. The unemployment rate for men was 4.7%; it has not been lower since September to November 1975. The unemployment rate for women was 4.2%; the joint lowest since comparable records began in 1971.

UK Services PMI fell to 53.4
UK service providers indicated another slowdown in business activity growth during June, which largely reflected the weakest upturn in new work since September 2016. Survey respondents commented on subdued business and consumer confidence, alongside some instances of delayed decision- making around the election. Meanwhile, service sector firms were the least upbeat about their year-ahead growth prospects since July 2016. In contrast, there was a slight pick- up in the pace of job creation to its fastest for 14 months in June.

UK manufacturing growth slows at end of second quarter
The end of the second quarter saw manufacturers report further expansions of both production and new order volumes. However, rates of increase decelerated, as growth of new business slowed in both the domestic and export markets. Price pressures continued to ease, with rates of inflation in input costs and output charges down further from highs reached at the start of the year. At 54.3 in June, down from 56.3 in May, the seasonally adjusted IHS Markit/CIPS Purchasing Managers’ Index posted its lowest reading in three months. However, the average PMI level over the second quarter as a whole (55.9) was the best registered for three years.

May to lead minority government
British Prime Minister Theresa May said she would lead a minority government backed by a small Northern Irish party after she lost an election gamble days before the start of talks on Britain's departure from the European Union. May called the snap election confident her Conservative Party would increase its majority and strengthen her hand in the Brexit talks. Instead, Thursday's vote damaged her authority and made her negotiating position more vulnerable to criticism.
