UK Retail Sales surprisingly increased by 1.4%

In July 2016, the quantity bought (volume) of retail sales is estimated to have increased by 5.9% compared with July 2015; all sectors showed growth with the main contribution coming from non-food stores. Compared with June 2016, the quantity bought increased by 1.4%; all sectors showed growth with the main contribution again coming from non-food stores.

Australian Retail Sales rose by 0.1%

Australian Retail Sales rose 0.2% in June 2016. This follows a rise of 0.2% in May 2016 and a rise of 0.2% in April 2016. The seasonally adjusted estimate rose 0.1% in June 2016. This follows a rise of 0.2% in May 2016 and a rise of 0.1% in April 2016. In trend terms, Australian turnover rose 3.1% in June 2016 compared with June 2015.

UK Retail Sales down by 0.9%

The volume of retail sales in June 2016 is estimated to have increased by 4.3% compared with June 2015. The underlying pattern in the quantity bought, as suggested by the 3 month on 3 month movement, increased by 1.6%. Compared with May 2016, the quantity bought in the retail industry is estimated to have decreased by 0.9%.

US CPI increased by 0.2%

The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) increased 0.2% in June on a seasonally adjusted basis, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported. Over the last 12 months, the all items index rose 1.0% before seasonal adjustment. For the second consecutive month, increases in the indexes for energy and all items less food and energy more than offset a decline in the food index to result in the seasonally adjusted all items increase. The food index fell 0.1%, with the food at home index declining 0.3%. The energy index rose 1.3%, due mainly to a 3.3% increase in the gasoline index; the indexes for natural gas and electricity declined.  Read more...
