US Retail Sales down by 0.8%

U.S. retail and food services sales for January, adjusted for seasonal variation and holiday and trading-day differences were $439.8 billion, a decrease of 0.8% from the previous month, but up 3.3% above January  2014. Analysts were anticipating smaller decrease by 0.4%. Total sales for the November 2014 through January 2015 period were up 3.8% from the same period a year ago.  

Australian Retail Sales up by 0.2%

The seasonally adjusted estimate rose 0.2% in December 2014. This follows a rise of 0.1% in November 2014 and a rise of 0.4% in October 2014. Analysts were expecting 0.3% increase. In trend terms, Australian turnover rose 3.3% in December 2014 compared with December 2013. 

Eurozone Retail Sales inclined by 0.3%

In December 2014 compared with November 2014, the seasonally adjusted volume of retail trade rose by 0.3% in both the euro area (EA18) and the EU28. Analysts were expecting 0.1% decline. In November retail trade rose by 0.7% and 0.9% respectively. In December 2014 compared with December 2013 the retail sales index increased by 2.8% in the euro area and by 3.2% in the EU28.

Australian Retail Sales rose less than expected

In seasonally adjusted terms Australian Retail Sales rose 0.1% in November 2014, missing expectations on 0.4% increase. This follows a rise of 0.4% in October 2014 and a rise of 1.3% in September 2014. In trend terms retail sales rose 0.4% in November 2014.
