NFP employment increased by 227,000
Total nonfarm payroll employment increased by 227,000 in January, and the unemployment rate was little changed at 4.8 percent, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Job gains occurred in retail trade, construction, and financial activities. Both the number of unemployed persons, at 7.6 million, and the unemployment rate, at 4.8 percent, were little changed in January.

Australian Unemployment Rate unexpectedly rose to 5.8%
Australian employment increased 8,200 to 11,966,800 in trend trms. Unemployment increased 3,200 to 725,700. Unemployment rate remained steady at 5.7%. Participation rate remained steady at 64.6%. Monthly hours worked in all jobs increased 2.3 million hours to 1,669.1 million hours. In seasonally adjusted terms employment increased 13,500 to 11,985,900. Full-time employment increased 9,300 to 8,176,500 and part-time employment increased 4,200 to 3,809,500.

UK Unemployment Rate unchanged at 4.8%
According to the latest release for September to November 2016: the unemployment rate for people was 4.8%; it has not been lower since July to September 2005. The unemployment rate for men was 5.0%, down from 5.2% for a year earlier, while the unemployment rate for women was 4.6%; it has not been lower since August to October 2005.

US Unemployment Rate at 4.7%
The U.S. labor market turned in a solid performance at the end of 2016, putting job gains above 2 million for a sixth year as paychecks rose by the most during the current expansion. The 156,000 increase in December payrolls followed a 204,000 rise in November that was bigger than previously estimated, a Labor Department report showed Friday in Washington. The median forecast in a Bloomberg survey of economists called for a 175,000 advance. The jobless rate ticked up to 4.7 percent as the labor force grew, and wages rose 2.9 percent from December 2015.
