Aussie higher supported by China’s Trade Balance figures
The Australian and New Zealand dollars are up about 0.6%, gaining nearly twice as much as sterling. The risk-off sentiment, softer yields in the US and Europe, and strong Chinese import data are among the drivers. The Australian dollar surged through the $0.7700 level to challenge a 15-month down trendline that is found near $0.7725. The high for the year was set in March at $0.7750.

Australian trade balance surplus decreased to $0.56 billion
In trend terms, the balance on goods and services was a surplus of $3,224m in April 2017, a decrease of $70m (2%) on the surplus in March 2017. In seasonally adjusted terms, the balance on goods and services was a surplus of $555m in April 2017, a decrease of $2,614m (82%) on the surplus in March 2017. In seasonally adjusted terms, goods and services credits fell $2,784m (8%) to $30,590m.

Australian Trade Balance surplus narrowed to $3.11 billion
In trend terms, the balance on goods and services was a surplus of $3,804m in March 2017, an increase of $265m (7%) on the surplus in February 2017. In seasonally adjusted terms, the balance on goods and services was a surplus of $3,107m in March 2017, a decrease of $550m (15%) on the surplus in February 2017. Read more...

Eurozone Trade Balance surplus at €17.8 bn
The first estimate for euro area (EA19) exports of goods to the rest of the world in February 2017 was €170.3 billion, an increase of 4% compared with February 2016 (€163.2 bn). Imports from the rest of the world stood at €152.6 bn, a rise of 5% compared with February 2016 (€144.9 bn).
