UK service growth picks up in February
UK service providers experienced a modest rebound in business activity growth during since May 2017. The latest survey also pointed to stronger job creation across the service economy, with payroll numbers rising to the greatest extent for five months as firms sought to boost operating capacity in response to improved order books. At the same time, cost pressures moderated to their lowest for a year-and-a-half, which contributed to a further slowdown in prices charged inflation.

UK Manufacturing PMI little changed in Febraury
The upturn in the UK manufacturing sector slowed further during February. At 55.2, the seasonally adjusted IHS Markit/CIPS Purchasing Managers’ Index® (PMI®) fell to an eight month low and lost further ground after hitting a 51-month high last November. Manufacturing production increased at the slowest pace for 11 months in February, with decelerations seen across the consumer, intermediate and investment goods sectors.

UK unemployment rises at fastest rate in almost five years
The number of people out of work in Britain rose at the fastest rate in almost five years, official figures showed on Wednesday, fuelled by an increase in unemployment among young people under the age of 24. After an almost two-year period of continuous declines in unemployment to the lowest levels since the mid 1970s, the number of people out of work rose by 46,000 to 1.47 million in the three months to December, according to the Office for National Statistics. The jobless rate rose to 4.4% against City forecasts for the level to remain unchanged at 4.3%. Read more...

Average UK property price rise to over £300,000
The average price of a UK property coming on to the market has risen by more than £2,400 in a month to just over £300,000 amid evidence of “record” levels of house-hunting activity, according to Rightmove. The website, which tracks 90% of the UK property market, said the national average asking price for a home had increased by 0.8% during the past month, following the 0.7% rise it reported in mid-January.
