UK Retail Sales surprisingly fell in June

Compared with May 2015, the quantity bought in the retail industry in the UK was estimated to have decreased by 0.2%, missing forecasts on 0.4% incline. Falls were reported by predominantly food stores, other stores, household goods stores and petrol stations. Average store prices (including petrol stations) fell by 2.9% in June 2015 compared with June 2014. This is the 12th consecutive month of year-on-year price falls with all store types reporting decreases. UK house prices rose by 0.1%

Today only minor importance Rightmove HPI figures were released from the UK. New analysis from Rightmove showed the biggest gap between demand and supply is in the first-time buyer sector.Number of enquiries per property for two bedrooms or fewer is 24% higher than for larger properties of three bedrooms or more. UK Unemployment Rate rose to 5.6%

For June 2015 there were 804,200 people claiming unemployment related benefits. The number of people claiming unemployment related benefits is up 7,000 from May 2015 (the first monthly increase since October 2012). Analysts were anticipating decrease by 8,900. It is down 240,200 from a year earlier, but 25,800 higher than the pre-downturn trough of 778,400 for February 2008. Read more...

UK CPI unchanged, PPI continues to fall

Prices faced by UK households were unchanged over the year to June 2015 compared with a 0.1% rise in prices in the year to May. Analysts were predicting 0.1% increase. This means that a basket of goods and services that cost £100.00 in June 2014 would have still cost £100.00 in June 2015. This continues the trend of recent months when inflation has been at or around 0.0%. The main downward push on inflation between May and June 2015 (causing it to fall slightly from 0.1% to 0.0%) came from decreases in clothing and food prices along with smaller rises in air fares than a year ago.
