Australian Retail Sales unexpectedly down in March

The trend estimate was relatively unchanged (0.0%) in March 2017. This follows a rise of 0.1% in February 2017 and a rise of 0.1% in January 2017. The seasonally adjusted estimate fell 0.1% in March 2017. This follows a fall of 0.2% in February 2017 and a rise of 0.5% in January 2017. In trend terms, Australian turnover rose 2.5% in March 2017 compared with March 2016.

UK shoppers turn out in force on Easter spending spree

Shoppers are increasing spending once more, defying fears of an economic slowdown to ramp up their purchases last month. Total sales were up 6.3pc in April compared with the same month a year ago, according to the British Retail Consortium, bouncing back from a fall of 0.2pc in March. Barclaycard’s data also matched this picture, with spending up 5.5pc in April on the year.

US Retail Sales decreased by 0.2%

Sales at U.S. retailers declined in March for a second month, hurt by fewer purchases of automobiles, Commerce Department data showed Friday.
