Eurozone Retail Sales rose 0.2% in May

In May 2015 compared with April 2015, the seasonally adjusted volume of retail trade rose by 0.2% in the euro area, beating expectations on 0.1% increase. The 0.2% increase in the volume of retail trade in the euro area in May 2015, compared with April 2015, is due to rises of 0.4% for both “Food, drinks and tobacco” and non-food products, while automotive fuel fell by 0.7%. Australian Retail Sales up by 0.3%

Australian Retail Sales rose 0.3% in May 2015, missing forecasts on 0.5% increase. This follows a fall of 0.1% in April 2015 and a rise of 0.2% in March 2015. The following industries rose in trend terms in May 2015: Food retailing (0.2%), Clothing, footwear and personal accessory retailing (0.8%), Household goods retailing (0.3%) and Other retailing (0.2%). Cafes, restaurants and takeaway food services (0.0%) and Department stores (0.0%) were relatively unchanged.

UK Retail Sales rose by 0.2%

On the month, the quantity bought in the retail industry increased by 0.2% compared with April 2015. Analysts were predicting no change. There was growth in predominantly food stores, other non-food stores, household goods stores and petrol stations. Read more...

US retail sales rose by 1.2%, jobless claims still below 300,000

U.S. retail and food services sales for May were $444.9 billion, an increase of 1.2% from the previous month, and 2.7% above May 2014. Analysts were anticipating smaller increase by 1.1% Total sales for the March 2015 through May 2015 period were up 2.1% from the same period a year ago. Retail trade sales were up 1.4% from April 2015, and 2.0% above last year. Motor vehicle and parts dealers were up 8.2% from May 2014 and food services and drinking places were up 8.2% from last year. Core Retail Sales also beat expectations on increase by 0.9% and rose 1.3%.
