UK CPI rose by 0.5% in June

The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) rose by 0.5% in the year to June 2016, compared with a 0.3% rise in the year to May. The June rate is a little above the position seen for most of 2016, though it is still relatively low historically. Rises in air fares, prices for motor fuels and a variety of recreational and cultural goods and services were the main contributors to the increase in the rate. These upward pressures were partially offset by falls in the price of furniture and furnishings and accommodation services. The price of goods bought and sold by UK manufacturers, as estimated by the Producer Price Index, continued to fall in the year to June 2016.

US PPI up by 0.5%

The Producer Price Index for final demand increased 0.5 percent in June, seasonally adjusted, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Final demand prices rose 0.4% in May and 0.2% in April. On an unadjusted basis, the final demand index advanced 0.3% for the 12 months ended in June, the largest 12-month increase since moving up 0.9% in December 2014.

US PPI increased 0.4% in May

The Producer Price Index for final demand increased 0.4% in May, seasonally adjusted, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported. Final demand prices rose 0.2% in April and declined 0.1% in March. On an unadjusted basis, the final demand index inched down 0.1% for the 12 months ended in May. In May, over 60 percent of the advance in the final demand index can be traced to prices for final demand goods, which climbed 0.7%. The index for final demand services moved up 0.2%. Prices for final demand less foods, energy, and trade services edged down 0.1% in May after rising 0.3% in April.

UK CPI increased by 0.3%

The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) rose by 0.3% in the year to May 2016, unchanged from April. This continues the position seen since the beginning of the year of a rate which is a little above zero. With the exception of March, when the rate was influenced by the timing of Easter, headline inflation has been 0.3% for all months of 2016.
