UK GDP grew by 0.5% in Quarter 4

UK GDP is estimated to have increased by 0.5% in Quarter 4 (Oct to Dec) 2015 compared with growth of 0.4% in Quarter 3 (July to Sept) 2015. Output increased in 2 of the main industrial groupings within the economy in Quarter 4 (Oct to Dec) 2015. Services increased by 0.7% and agriculture increased by 0.6%. In contrast, production decreased by 0.2%, while construction output decreased by 0.1%.

Chinese GDP grew by the slowest growth rate since 2009

Chinese GDP is out, and it’s right in line with expectations at 6.8% annualised for the December quarter. Despite meeting forecasts, it was the slowest growth rate since the first quarter of 2009. Full-year growth was 6.9%, roughly in line with the government’s target of 7.0% for the year. It was the slowest annual expansion recorded since 1990. According to China’s National Bureau of Statistics, the preliminary estimate for GDP was 67,670.8 billion yuan, or around $10,300 billion, for the year.

China's economy expected to grow by slackest pace since 1990

China's economy will grow at the slackest pace since 1990 next year, and the yuan will weaken by 4% against the dollar, economists in a Nikkei Inc./NQN survey predicted. Real gross domestic product is seen expanding 6.4% in 2016, the lowest since the year after the deadly Tiananmen Square protests, according to the average forecast of 22 economists responding to the recent write-in survey. China's next five-year plan aims for average growth of at least 6.5% from 2016 to 2020.

Euro little changed in a quiet European trade

There are no data releases from Eurozone today and with holidays ahead there is a bit of lack of volatility. Support in Finland for keeping the euro currency has fallen to 54% amid persistent economic problems, an opinion poll shows. This comes as parliament prepares for a debate next year on whether to hold referendum on euro membership. Despite recovery elsewhere in the Eurozone, Finland has suffered three years of economic contraction and some Finns say its prospects would improve if it returned to the markka currency.
