Caixin Manufacturing PMI at the highest level since 2015

Caixin released their manufacturing PMI data which smahed expectations, surging to 50.6 - its highest since February 2015. Following the notable USD weakness on Friday (thanks to BoJ disappointment), and the apparent recovery of the Chinese economy (just need another trillion or two of credit to keep the dream alive), PBOC strengthened the Yuan fix by 0.35% - the most since mid-June... extending the 9-day gain to the most since September 2010.

China service sector activity growth weakens to three-month low in May

May survey data indicated that overall Chinese business activity growth weakened for the second month in a row, as services activity expanded at a slower rate and manufacturers reported a fractional fall in production for the second consecutive month. Furthermore, it was the weakest increase in service sector business activity since February, with the Caixin China General Services Business Activity Index registering 51.2 in May, down from 51.8 in the previous month.   Read more...

Official China's Manufacturing PMI unchanged at 50.1

China’s official factory gauge remained above the dividing line that signals improving conditions for a third month, adding to recent evidence of stabilization in the world’s second-largest economy. The manufacturing purchasing managers index stood at 50.1 in May, the nation’s statistics agency said Wednesday, matching April’s level and compared with median estimate of 50 in a Bloomberg News survey of economists. The non-manufacturing PMI was at 53.1 compared with 53.5 in April.

Aussie under pressure in an overnight trade

There were no data releases from Australia this morning. Trading sentiment has begun Monday morning under pressure as weaker than expected economic data from China again points towards economic slowdown in the world’s second largest economy. Chinese economic data disappointed with Industrial Production (+6.0% vs 6.5% exp), Retail Sales (+10.1% vs +10.5% exp) and Fixed Asset Investment (+10.5% vs +10.9%).
