Unemployment Claims decreased to 234,000

In the week ending April 8, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 234,000, a decrease of 1,000 from the previous week's revised level. The previous week's level was revised up by 1,000 from 234,000 to 235,000. The 4-week moving average was 247,250, a decrease of 3,000 from the previous week's revised average.

US PPI declined by 0.1%

The Producer Price Index for final demand declined 0.1 percent in March, seasonally adjusted, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Final demand prices advanced 0.3 percent in February and 0.6 percent in January. On an unadjusted basis, the final demand index rose 2.3 percent for the 12 months ended March 2017, the largest increase since moving up 2.4 percent for the 12 months ended March 2012.

US Import prices down by 0.2%, export prices up by 0.2%

Import prices fell 0.2 percent in March, after increasing 1.4 percent over the previous 3  months. Prior to the March downturn, import prices trended up over most of the past 12 months, advancing  4.2 percent between March 2016 and March 2017. In contrast, import prices fell 6.1 percent for the previous  12-month period.

Job openings at 5.7 million in February

On the last business day of February, there were 5.7 million job openings, little changed from January.  The job openings rate was 3.8 percent in February. The number of job openings was little changed for  total private and for government.
