US PPI down by 0.1%
The Producer Price Index for final demand declined 0.1 percent in July, seasonally adjusted, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported today. Final demand prices inched up 0.1 percent in June and were unchanged in May. On an unadjusted basis, the final demand index increased 1.9 percent for the 12 months ended in July.

Unemployment Claims rose to 244,000
In the week ending August 5, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 244,000, an increase of 3,000 from the previous week's revised level. The previous week's level was revised up by 1,000 from 240,000 to 241,000. The 4-week moving average was 241,000, a decrease of 1,000 from the previous week's revised average. The previous week's average was revised up by 250 from 241,750 to 242,000.

US Crude Oil Inventories fell 6.5 million barrels
U.S. crude inventories USOILC=ECI fell 6.5 million barrels last week, government data showed, steeper than the expected decrease of 2.7 million barrels. Refiners processed nearly 17.6 million barrels of crude, surpassing a record set in May and the most for any week since the U.S. Department of Energy started keeping data in 1982.

JOLTS Job Openings at a record high
Monthly jobs openings — a gauge of the U.S. economy that's closely watched by Fed Chair Janet Yellen — increased in June from May, the Bureau of Labor Statistics announced Tuesday. The number of openings was at 6.2 million on the last business day of the month, a record high, the report from the Labor Department said. This represents an increase from 5.7 million on the last business day of May.
