Euro area at a critical juncture

There were no data releases from Eurozone today. Recovery in the euro area has strengthened, but the medium-term outlook remains weak and is endangered by a lack of collective action to address common challenges. Members must rebuild faith in the monetary union, says the IMF in its latest review of the currency union. “The euro area is at a critical juncture. Eurozone CPI expected to be 0.1% in June

Euro area annual inflation is expected to be 0.1% in June 2016, up from -0.1% in May 2016, according to a flash
estimate from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. Analysts were predicting increase to 0.0%.

Euro area annual inflation is expected to be -0.1% in May 2016, up from -0.2% in April, according to a flash estimate from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union. This was in line with market forecasts.

Eurozone GDP grew by 0.5% in Q1

Seasonally adjusted GDP rose by 0.5% in both the euro area (EA19) and the EU28 during the first quarter of 2016, 
compared with the previous quarter, according to a flash estimate published by Eurostat. In the fourth quarter of 2015, GDP grew by 0.3% and 0.4% respectively. Compared with the same quarter of the previous year, seasonally adjusted GDP rose by 1.5% in the euro area and by 1.7% in the EU28 in the first quarter of 2016, after +1.6% and +1.8% respectively in theprevious quarter.
