China's CPI up more than expected
China's consumer inflation rose to a seven-month high, as falls in food prices softened, dragging less on the overall index, official data showed Saturday. China's consumer-price index increased 1.8% in August from a year earlier, compared with a 1.4% gain in July, the National Bureau of Statistics said. Food prices edged down 0.2% on year, after dropping 1.1% in July. Nonfood prices grew 2.3% on year, compared with 2.0% on-year growth in July.

Eurozone CPI increased to 1.5%
Euro area annual inflation is expected to be 1.5% in August 2017, up from 1.3% in July 2017, according to a flash estimate from Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union.

UK CPI unchanged in July
The Consumer Prices Index including owner occupiers’ housing costs 12-month inflation rate was 2.6% in July 2017, unchanged from June 2017. CPIH was re-designated as a National Statistic on 31 July 2017. The price of motor fuel continued to fall and provided the largest downward contribution to change in the rate between June 2017 and July 2017. This was offset by smaller upward contributions from a range of goods and services, including clothing, household goods, gas and electricity, and food and non-alcoholic beverages. The Consumer Prices Index (CPI) 12-month rate was 2.6% in July 2017, unchanged from June 2017.

US CPI rose less than expected
The Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (CPI-U) rose 0.1 percent in July on a seasonally adjusted basis, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported. Over the last 12 months, the all items index rose 1.7 percent. The indexes for shelter, medical care, and food all rose in July, leading to the seasonally adjusted increase in the all items index. The energy index declined slightly in July, with its major component indexes mixed. The index for natural gas declined, while the electricity index rose and the gasoline index was unchanged. The food index increased 0.2 percent, with the indexes for food at home and food away from home both rising.
