Theresa May will not trigger Article 50 this week

Theresa May will not trigger Article 50 and initiate Britain's formal departure from the European Union until the final few days of March, the prime minister has indicated. May had been expected to  trigger Article 50 — the two year process by which Britain will leave the EU — as early as Tuesday afternoon, after the Brexit bill passed both Houses of Parliaments.

Most British now approve of May's approach to Brexit poll shows

A majority of Britons approve of the government's approach to leaving the European Union, a poll indicated on Monday, in a boost to Prime Minister Theresa May after she laid out her priorities for negotiations. May set out her vision for Brexit in a speech in mid-January, outlining plans to leave the EU single market in a clean break with the bloc. She had previously been criticised for being vague, and some lawmakers want further clarity before they will vote to start Brexit negotiations.

UK Supreme Court ruled Parliament approval needed to trigger Article 50

As widely expected, the UK Supreme Court ruled that Parliament approval is needed to trigger Article 50 start the divorce proceedings with the EU.  The Court decided by an 8-3 majority that a bill needs to be submitted to both chambers, but that the approval of the regional assemblies (e.g. Scotland, Northern Ireland) is not necessary.

UK's Supreme Court to rule if May can start Brexit without parliament

British Prime Minister Theresa May will learn on Tuesday whether parliament must agree to the triggering of Britain's exit from the European Union, potentially giving lawmakers who oppose her plans a chance to amend or hinder her Brexit vision. The UK Supreme Court will give its ruling at 9:30 a.m. (0930 GMT) in a landmark case on whether May can use executive powers known as known as "royal prerogative" to invoke Article 50 of the EU's Lisbon Treaty and begin two years of divorce talks.
