UK Unemployment Rate unchanged at 4.3%
There were 32.06 million people in work, 14,000 fewer than for April to June 2017 but 279,000 more than for a year earlier. The employment rate (the proportion of people aged from 16 to 64 who were in work) was 75.0%, down slightly compared with April to June 2017 but up from 74.4% for a year earlier. There were 1.42 million unemployed people (people not in work but seeking and available to work), 59,000 fewer than for April to June 2017 and 182,000 fewer than for a year earlier. The unemployment rate (the proportion of those in work plus those unemployed, that were unemployed) was 4.3%, down from 4.8% for a year earlier and the joint lowest since 1975.

U.S. job growth speeds up, unemployment rate falls
U.S. job growth accelerated in October after hurricane-related disruptions in the prior month, but a sharp retreat in annual wage gains and surge in the number of people dropping out of the work force cast a cloud over the labor market. Nonfarm payrolls increased by 261,000 jobs last month as 106,000 leisure and hospitality workers returned to work, the Labor Department said in its closely watched employment report on Friday. That was the largest gain since July 2016 but below economists’ expectations for an increase of 310,000 jobs. Data for September was revised to show a gain of 18,000 jobs instead of a decline of 33,000 as previously reported. Some aspects of the report, however, were downbeat.

Australian Unemployment Rate fell to 5.5%
The Australian dollar initially got a boost from the September employment figures, which beat expectations with a monthly gain of 19,800 in seasonally adjusted terms. It was forecast at 15,000. This morning’s jobs figure was the seventh straight month of jobs growth, and left total employment at 12,290,200 — the highest level on record. The unemployment rate fell to 5.5%, which is the lowest level since February 2013. Read more...

The employment rate (the proportion of people aged from 16 to 64 who were in work) was 75.1%, up from 74.5% for a year earlier. There were 1.44 million unemployed people (people not in work but seeking and available to work), 52,000 fewer than for March to May 2017 and 215,000 fewer than for a year earlier. The unemployment rate (the proportion of those in work plus those unemployed, that were unemployed) was 4.3%, down from 5.0% for a year earlier and the joint lowest since 1975. Read more...
