UK Unemployment Rate fell to 4.8%
For October 2016 there were 803,300 people claiming unemployment-related benefits. This consisted of 541,300 people claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance, 262,000 people who were seeking work and claiming Universal Credit. For October 2016 there were 803,300 people claiming unemployment-related benefits. This was 9,800 more compared with September 2016 and 9,900 more than for a year earlier.

Number of unemployed in the UK grew by 700
Between March to May 2016 and June to August 2016, the number of people in work and the number of unemployed people increased. The number of people not working and not seeking or available to work (economically inactive) fell. There were 31.81 million people in work, 106,000 more than for March to May 2016 and 560,000 more than for a year earlier.For September 2016 there were 776,400 people claiming unemployment related benefits. This was little changed (up 700) compared with August 2016 and 15,700 fewer than for a year earlier.

Payrolls weaker than expected, unemployment rate at 5.0%
Employers continued to add to payrolls in September as record openings drew more Americans into the workforce and most found jobs, indicating the U.S. labor market is settling into a pace that will support the economy. The 156,000 increase followed a 167,000 rise in August that was more than previously estimated, a Labor Department report showed Friday in Washington. While the September figure was weaker than the 172,000 median forecast of economists, payrolls included the biggest drop in government employment in a year. The jobless rate rose to 5 percent as the labor participation rate ticked up to a six-month high.

Aussie little changed after mixed Australian job figures
Australia’s August employment data today unveils a big miss to the downside with a fall of 3,900 jobs (seasonally adjusted) against expectations of a rise of 15,000. The breakup of the data was slightly more encouraging at the margins, with the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) saying that full-time jobs rose 11,500 while part-time jobs fell 15,400.
