Sterling up in a quiet Monday trade

There were no major data releases from the UK today. The Pound has held its ground the past week of trading as it has attained values which continue to test a variety of technical highs. Retail Sales data from the U.K were weak before going into the weekend, but this didn’t create headwinds. The Pound is comfortably above the 1.38 juncture versus the U.S Dollar and may continue to attract buyers.

Deutsche Bank says hundreds not thousands of staff will move after Brexit

Deutsche Bank plans to move hundreds of staff out of London as a result of Brexit rather than the thousands first feared, a senior executive has said. It is the latest global lender to roll back on suggestions of an exodus from the City caused by Britain's departure from the European Union. Deutsche previously said it was considering shifting up to 4,000 staff from London to Frankfurt.

Sterling little changed in a quiet Tuesday trade

There were no data releases from the UK today with focus on Brexit once again. 18-months on from the referendum, some polls show the "Remain" camp has moved into the lead.  This is understandable, as the "Brexit" camp oversold the benefits and minimized the costs, which are becoming clearer as the divorce talks proceed. Cameron made the referendum binding, and although May deviated from several of his initiatives, she could not bring herself (or the country) to do re-think the results of the referendum.  The EU (and others) can rightly be surprised that the UK would make such a momentous decision on the basis of such a narrow vote.

Brexit Moves To Phase 2 - Sterling Slides As EU Warns Talks Will Be Far More Testing

There were no data releases from the UK today, with focus on Brexit negotiations. Following the humiliation of losing the House of Commons vote on Friday, in which MP’s took the final say on the Brexit deal from the executive, UK Prime Minister was in Brussels as EU leaders gave approval for Brexit talks to move to phase 2. At a dinner last night, she was applauded by leaders of the other 27 EU nations after giving a speech. This morning, the European Council approved the recommendation from the European Commission that talks should proceed to the next phase. Donald Tusk, President of the European Council, tweeted the news.
