The renewed optimism in the trade sector fed through to all the components making up the indicator. As for the building industry, equipment has been used more intensively, order books have been filling up and their level has been assessed more positively. The only component that was down in April was the outlook for demand. The decline observed in business-related services can be largely explained by a sharp downward revision of the forecast trend in activity.
Belgian NBB Business Climate up to -0.8
The National Bank of Belgium’s business barometer has recovered a little in April, after two consecutive months of slight decline. The business climate has firmed up in the manufacturing industry, in trade and in the building industry. By contrast, the economic situation has deteriorated in business-related services, for the second month in a row. The improvement in the manufacturing industry was entirely supported by a much more favourable appraisal of stock levels.
