Unemployment Claims decreased to 289,000

In the week ending December 13, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 289,000, a decrease of 6,000 from the previous week's revised level. Analysts were predicting increase to 297,000. The previous week's level was revised up by 1,000 from 294,000 to 295,000.

The 4 week moving average was 298,750, a decrease of 750 from the previous week's revised average. The previous week's average was revised up by 250 from 299,250 to 299,500.

 

Data did not have any major impact on the markets but USD continues to be broadly stronger against its major rivals. Euro is currently being traded few points above 1.2280 level, Sterling is around 1.5620 area, while Aussie is sligthly below 0.82 handle. Later today, Philly Fed Manufacturing Index figures will be released.
