Total lending to individuals increased by £4.9 billion in September, compared to the average monthly increase of £3.9 billion over the previous six months. Analysts were forecasting increase by £4.5 billion. The three-month annualised and twelve-month growth rates were 3.8% and 2.9% respectively. Lending secured on dwellings increased by £3.6 billion in September, compared to the average monthly increase of £2.6 billion over the previous six months.
The number of loan approvals for house purchase was 68,874 in September, compared to the average of 66,900 over the previous six months. The number of approvals for remortgaging was 41,163, compared to the average of 37,194 over the previous six months. The number of approvals for other purposes was 11,947, compared to the average of 10,883 over the previous six months.
