Privately-owned housing units authorized by building permits in April were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,143,000. Analysts were forecasting smaller incline to 1,060,000. Single-family authorizations in April were at a rate of 666,000; this is 3.7% above the revised March figure of 642,000. Privately-owned housing starts in April were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,135,000, which is also above anticipated rise to 1,020,000. This is 20.2% above the revised March estimate of 944,000 and is 9.2% above the April 2014 rate of 1,039,000. Single-family housing starts in April were at a rate of 733,000; this is 16.7 percent (±10.6%) above the revised March figure of 628,000. The April rate for units in buildings with five units or more was 389,000.
USD remains broadly higher against its major rivals. Euro is currently being traded few points above 1.1140 area, Sterling is slightly below 1.55 handle, while Aussie is around 0.7930 area.
